CLASSIC DANCE

Through this method, the acquisition of technique is thought of as a process that happens only when the individual development and physical constitution of each student are respected and the students’ possibilities and limits are taken into consideration; not as a rigid training that is forced upon the body.

Following the tradition of her teachers, Zélia Monteiro’s lessons are open to anyone who is interested, without any division based on level: regardless of previous knowledge of ballet, everyone learns together.

The pedagogy is based on knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology, where technique is introduced as a way to feel and understand the body and how it works.

The study of ballet is a means and not an end, it is not restricted to the codification of movements, specific to a certain time and tradition. It is a means for us to know our bodies and how they work, allowing for the change in our postural patterns. Through muscle-bone alignment, relaxation of unnecessary tensions and strengthening of weak muscles, posture and coordination are improved.

The pleasure and availability of dancing remain alive.
