MUSIC IN THE PRACTICE OF BALLET

traco 1.jpg

Born from Zélia Monteiro’s research on the foundations of ballet, this course was developed with the objective of explaining and teaching the relationships and interactions between the languages of ballet and music.

In order for the musical repertoire used in a ballet lesson to be adequate, the music should reflect the symmetrical structure of the dance, especially when it comes to its regular metric.

In order for the movement performed by the dancer to harmonise with the music, concepts such as pulse, compass, phrase and quadrature are developed not only through the refinement of listening skills, but also through the understanding of how the body’s movements organise in relation to space.

The goal is to contribute with the student’s exploration and research of the relationship between music and dance, broadening their perspectives and perfecting their technique.
